Day by Day

you're just as sane as I am

The past week I have been watching a lot of psychological thrillers, and it is questioning my own sense of sanity. Just the other day I had to stop myself from thinking that my entire college was an illusion. I probably should take a break from the insanity, but it keeps me entertained.
Here are some of the movies that I have seen this week; Shutter Island, Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan, and The Others. My favorite of these horrible pills to swallow was Requiem for a Dream. This was not a thriller really, but it is a hard movie to forget and I put it under the psychological category because once you see it, the movie will tattoo itself onto your brain. From the haunting violin soundtrack all the way to the soft smile of Leto that cracks into a sob at the end of the movie, almost everything about this movie makes me feel like you lost everything that was ever important to you. While this movie is about drugs, I do not think that it is the primary reason it was made. Requiem for a Dream is about searching for your own 'Fix'. Whether it is Coke, Heroin or even food, everyone has a fix. Once you lose yours, you could end up losing everything that you love in your life too, even yourself. Someone I look up to recently told me that everyone has their own escape. For her, it is heights and adrenaline. For some people it could be drugs, alcohol, school even perfection. For example, a type A person who has to follow every rule, might get their version of 'high' off of preforming to the highest of standards and making sure that they do not mess up the expectations they set for themselves.
In the end, it depends on if you let your fix if control your life, and if you end up in a requiem that you are unable to escape.
